Brisbane’s South Bank Piazza to host 2025 Squash Australian Open

After record crowds in March this year, the Squash Australian Open is returning to Brisbane’s South Bank Piazza on 10-15 March 2026.

The aftermath of Cyclone Alfred couldn’t dampen the support for the 2025 event with thousands turning out to witness the world’s best squash players battle it out on the  purpose-built glass court situated near the Brisbane River, within the South Bank Piazza multipurpose amphitheatre.

A gold status event on the PSA Squash Tour, the Open is just one of seven gold events on the global calendar making it a priority event for the top athletes to attend and a thrilling spectator tournament for locals to watch.

Squash Australia (SqA) CEO Robert Donaghue said the success of the 2025 tournament cemented the Brisbane 2032 Olympics and Paralympics host city as the ideal location for this world-class sporting event.

“The Squash Australian Open is a time-honoured tradition dating back to 1928 and has reemerged as one of the premier events on the PSA Tour.

“Not only did squash fans from Queensland and around Australia turn out in record numbers in 2025, we also had fantastic feedback from the players competing that they loved visiting Brisbane with all the city and surrounding regions have to offer.

We were delighted to have fifteen of the world’s top 20 Men and Women travel down under as well as the opportunity for five of our hometown heroes to battle it out on the now iconic glass court at South Bank.”

South Bank Corporation CEO Julia Scodellaro shared her support for the tournament returning to South Bank.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the Squash Australian Open back to the Piazza in 2026. Events like this help to amplify South Bank and create memorable experiences for the community. This year’s Squash Australian Open saw the world’s best players put on an incredible show in front of record crowds, so we’re looking forward to seeing how this major tournament continues to grow at South Bank.”

The tournament will again feature the Squash Australian Open Gala Dinner including the presentation of the Squash Australia Annual awards which recognise the best of Australian Squash from throughout the 2025 season along with the Australian Open Graded competitions and activities for junior players of all levels.

The Australian Open dates back to 1928 with the honour roll featuring greats of the game from Australia and abroad, including Heather McKay, Geoff Hunt, Jahangir Khan, Michelle Martin, Chris Dittmar, Sarah Fitz-Gerald, David Palmer and Nicol David.

Tickets and corporate hospitality packages will go on sale in August.
