2025 Australian National Championships Preview
Published Tue 17 Jun 2025
The 2025 edition of the Australian National Squash Championships, proudly supported by the City of Moreton Bay, kicks off this week in Redcliffe from 19-22 June.
The Australian National Championships will showcase the nation's elite squash players who will converge on the Queensland coast for the tournament.
Defending Men's champion, Joseph White (NT), a semi-finalist at the recent 2025 Oceania Regional Championships is back for another tilt at the trophy and is the top seed. Second seed Dylan Molinaro (VIC) comes into the event with strong form after making the final at last week’s Oceania Regional Championships. Molinaro is chasing his first National title after reaching the semi-finals in 2023 and 2024.
White heads up a stacked top-half of the draw, with Brendan MacDonald (QLD), who posed the biggest threat to eventual Oceania Champion Elijah Thomas last week, seeded to meet White in the semi-finals. Young-gun Thomas Scott (NSW), a semi-finalist last week, is seeded to meet MacDonald in round two if he makes it through veteran Mike Corren (SA) in his opening match on Thursday night.
Jess Van der Walt (QLD), the No. 1 Women's seed, will be gunning for a fourth consecutive Australian National Championship this week. She will be joined by last year's ANC runner-up, Alexandra Haydon (SA), as the only competitors to pass through the opening round with a bye this year.
20-year old Madison Lyon (QLD) will be looking to add a Senior National Championship to her three Under 19 Australian Junior Championships after reaching the final at the Oceania Regional Championships last week. Lyon faces current Australian Junior Champion, Sarbani Maitra (QLD), in the first round.
Two of Maitra’s 2025 World Junior Championships teammates, Joanne Joseph (VIC) and Hannah Slyth (WA), also feature in the women’s draw and will be looking for strong performances before heading to Cairo in July.
The Australian National Championships will also feature a Graded Men's and Women's Event.
