Squash Australia is celebrating the establishment of a new group of World Squash Officiating (WSO) Referee Appraisers who are currently completing the WSO Appraiser Course. This initiative marks an important step in the ongoing development, support, and education of referees across the country, while also strengthening opportunities for Australian referees from the community level through to the international stage.

The group includes a mix of experienced and emerging Appraisers:

  • Chris Sinclair (NSW)
  • Christie Christall (VIC)
  • Damien Green (VIC)
  • David Cowell (VIC)
  • Jordan Till (QLD)
  • Josh Foyle (QLD)
  • Luke Jamieson (WA)

As part of the course, participants are now conducting practical referee appraisals, ensuring that referees at all levels benefit from quality feedback, mentoring, and development aligned with global standards.

Squash Australia CEO, Robert Donaghue, highlighted the importance of this work in strengthening Australia’s role within the global squash community. “Referees are vital to the integrity and growth of our sport. By supporting the WSO Appraiser Course, Squash Australia is helping ensure that our referees are developed to the highest international standards. This initiative reflects our commitment to contributing meaningfully to the global squash community while ensuring Australian referees continue to thrive.”

National Lead – Sport Development, Shaun McEachin, acknowledged the collaborative efforts between Squash Australia and WSO in driving this progress. “We have been building on the outstanding work of Australian referees in recent years, and our ongoing partnership with WSO allows us to take that to the next level. The WSO Appraiser Course provides an important platform to create development opportunities for referees across all levels of the game. This investment ensures that referees receive the guidance, support, and education they need to continue improving and contributing to our sport.”

The launch of this appraiser group reinforces Squash Australia’s long-term focus on referee development as part of its broader strategy to build a sustainable and world-class workforce.
