World’s Best Young Players Converge for Australian Junior Open

From 12-16 April 2026, more than 300 of the world’s top junior squash players will converge on the Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre in Albert Park, Victoria, for the Australian Junior Open, with competitors from 10 countries set to contest one of the premier events on the international junior calendar.

As a key stop on the World Squash Federation junior circuit, the Australian Junior Open continues to attract a strong global field, with players competing across age groups from Under 11 through to Under 19. For the first time, the tournament is also a part of the 2026 Asian Junior Super Series (AJSS) as a Silver status event (ZONE A).

The event plays an important role in the development pathway for emerging athletes, offering valuable international competition alongside the opportunity to earn selection for Australia’s team at the WSF World Junior Championships set to be held in Ontario, Canada.

The Under 19 divisions are shaping as must-watch, with plenty of Aussie talent leading the charge. Jackson Wylie headlines the boys’ draw as top seed and reigning Under 19 Australian Junior Champion, while in the girls’ event, top seed Sarbani Maitra and second seed Joanne Joseph loom as strong contenders in what promises to be a tightly fought field.

International challengers are expected to feature strongly throughout the tournament. New Zealand will field a powerful contingent across multiple age groups, while rising players from Japan and China add further depth. Japan’s Emily Senior returns to defend her Under 15 title after an impressive victory last year, aiming to secure back-to-back crowns against a talented field of emerging athletes.

Competition begins on Sunday 12 April, with matches played across multiple courts and two show courts to be livestreamed through Squash TV, providing fans with access to key matchups throughout the tournament. Live scoring and draws will be available via the Squash Australia website, allowing followers to track results as the action unfolds.

With a blend of established junior standouts and exciting international prospects, the Australian Junior Open promises a week of high-quality competition and a glimpse into the future of the sport.
