White Claims Third Straight Australian National Championship

Joseph White has further cemented his place among Australia's squash elite, claiming a third consecutive Australian National Championship, while Madison Lyon claimed the women's national title.

White's commanding 3-1 victory over Dylan Molinaro on the Gold Coast, put him in rarefied air in Australia Squash.

After dropping the opening game 8-11, the top seed responded in emphatic fashion, taking control of the match to win the next three games 11-6, 11-4, 11-3 and successfully defend his national title.

The victory sees White become a three-time Australian National Champion, joining an exclusive group of players to have won three men's national singles titles. It also marks his third consecutive championship, underlining his dominance of Australian squash.

Molinaro, competing in his first Australian National Championship final, made the perfect start by claiming the opening game before White settled into his rhythm. From there, the defending champion controlled the rallies, applying relentless pressure and showcasing the consistency that has made him Australia's leading men's player.

Earlier in the day, Madison Lyon claimed the women's Australian National Championship with a composed 3-1 victory over Sarah Cardwell.

After dropping the opening game 5-11, Lyon fought back to edge a tight second game 11-9 before taking a pivotal third 12-10. With the momentum firmly on her side, the tournament's top seed stormed through the fourth game 11-1 to secure the national crown.

The victory caps off an outstanding week for Lyon, who lived up to her top seeding throughout the tournament to claim Australia's premier women's singles title.

Cardwell made the stronger start, using her experience and accuracy to take the opening game, but Lyon gradually worked her way into the contest. The 11-9 second game proved the turning point before Lyon held her nerve in a thrilling third to move within one game of the championship.

With confidence soaring, Lyon produced her most dominant squash of the match in the fourth game to seal the title in style.

"I'm super excited to get through to the final," Lyon had said after her semi-final victory, before delivering on that promise with a championship-winning performance.

The 2026 Australian National Championships showcased the depth and quality of Australian squash, with the nation's top-ranked men and women delivering a fitting finale on the Gold Coast.
