Upsets across the courts as players take their place in the finals

Semi-final upsets flooded the courts at the Victory Squash Centre for the Gympie PSA Satellite.

The first semi-final saw first seed Rachael Grinham and third seed Jess Turnbull go head to head, with Turnbull taking control of the match from the outset.

It was Turnbull’s first win over the former world number one to secure her spot in today’s final after the 11-9, 11-5, 11-5 (24 mins) win.

First seed Joseph White took on Moreton Bay PSA Satellite winner and third seed Bryan Lim. White put Lim to the test in a battle of endurance but in the end, Lim earnt his place in today’s final; 11-6, 11-7, 11-8 (36 mins) win.

Fourth seed Tamika Hunt took on fourth seed Alex Haydon. Haydon was full of confidence off the back of her upset victory on day two and started the match in much the same way.

The first two games were very tight but ultimately Hunt proved too strong and finished off the match in three games and booked herself a place in a repeat final from last week’s Moreton Bay PSA; 11-8, 11-8, 11-3 (27 mins).

Fifth seed Solayman Nowrozi continued his fine form when he took on second seed Nicholas Calvert in the longest match of the day. Nowrozi and Calvert had an intense battle, with Nowrozi causing yet another upset taking out the win; 11-9, 12-10, 11-4 (48 mins).
