Team Announcement - 2025 Junior Trans Tasman Test Match
Published Fri 28 Feb 2025
Squash Australia is sending an 18-strong squad of junior superstars across the ditch to compete in the 2025 Junior Trans Tasman Test Match against New Zealand in Hamilton.
The team will be aiming to replicate the success they had at last year's test match in Melbourne , when they face their Kiwi counterparts on April 22-23.
After a stellar 2024 season, which culminated in a maiden Australian Junior Championship title, Thomas Scott (NSW) will be looking to pick straight back up from wherehe left off in 2025 when he hits the court for his final event as an Australian junior. Sarbani Maitra (QLD), the reigning Australian Junior Girls Champion, also returns to the side in the U17 team.
There are ten other returning players in this year's squad, including the U15s Girls Australian Junior Open Champion Tina Ma (VIC) and Joshua Raj (QLD) who returns to the Australian Trans Tasman team for the first time in six years.
All six of the players named in the under 15s category will make their international debut, including South Australian sisters Nadia and Olivia van Zon.
Squash Australia's High Performance Director Lachlan Johnston believes the team has what it takes to go back-to-back this year.
“Australia has never won the Junior Trans Tasman Test Match away from home,” said Johnston. “After a strong victory at home last year in Melbourne and with the spread of talent across the team selected, we are confident that this group can be the first to win the Test Match in New Zealand”.
Squash Australia’s National Pathway Coach Jenny Duncalf will be leading the team in New Zealand.
