Squash Australia Welcomes Announcement of India as Host of the 2030 Commonwealth Games

Squash Australia has warmly welcomed the announcement of India as the host nation for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, following confirmation today at the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow.

With Amdavad (Ahmedabad) set to stage the centenary edition of the Games, Squash Australia CEO Robert Donaghue said the decision provides welcome certainty and marks an exciting new era for the Commonwealth Sport movement.

“We congratulate India on being awarded the 2030 Commonwealth Games and applaud Commonwealth Sport for securing a host that reflects both the history and the future of the Games,” Donaghue said.

“Amdavad is a vibrant city with a rich sporting culture, and we have no doubt it will deliver a memorable centenary celebration worthy of this milestone in Commonwealth sport.”

Squash has a long and successful association with the Commonwealth Games, having been part of the sport program since 1998 and producing some of Australia’s most decorated international athletes.

With Commonwealth Sport confirming an initial list of sports and announcing that a selection process will now determine which additional sports will be added to the 2030 program, Donaghue reaffirmed Squash Australia’s eagerness to be included.

“We are incredibly proud of the role squash has played at past Commonwealth Games and would be thrilled to see it included again in 2030,” Donaghue said. “Our sport offers fast-paced, highly skilled, spectator-friendly competition, and Australia has a rich history of success on the Commonwealth Games stage.”

“We would welcome the opportunity for our athletes to compete in Amdavad and to continue the legacy squash has built across more than two decades within the Games. We look forward to engaging positively in the upcoming selection process.”

Donaghue also acknowledged the significance of today’s announcement for athletes and the broader sporting community.

“This milestone provides clarity and confidence for Commonwealth nations and, importantly, for athletes who dream of competing on one of the sport’s most meaningful international stages,” he said. “As we look toward Squash’s inclusion at LA28 Olympic Games and hopefully Brisbane 2032, the 2030 Commonwealth Games will play an important role in shaping the next generation of high-performance talent.”

Squash Australia looks forward to supporting World Squash and the Squash Rackets Federation of India as they work with Commonwealth Sport to finalise the full sport programme for the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
