Squash Stars Bring the Fun to Tasmania Communities

Published Tue 28 Oct 2025

Squash is heading to the streets, parks and markets of Tasmania this October and November as Squash Stars Community Activations take over Devonport and Hobart.

The pop-up events, proudly delivered by Squash Australia, Squash Tasmania, and local councils, will introduce families, children, and community members to the excitement of squash through free, fun, and inclusive activities.

Set for Friday 31 October in Devonport and Saturday 1 November in Hobart, the activations will transform public spaces such as Rooke Street Mall, The Bluff, Salamanca Market and Franklin Square into dynamic Squash Stars Community Activations. Participants can grab a racquet, test their skills on Squash Stars rebound walls, and enjoy interactive challenges designed to make the sport accessible for all.

Squash Australia’s National Lead – Sport Development, Shaun McEachin, said the activations aim to “bring squash to where people are.”

“By creating playful, accessible experiences in public spaces, we’re breaking down barriers and showing that squash can be enjoyed by everyone, everywhere.”

Each activation will include demonstrations and opportunities to connect with local clubs.

These activations have been made possible through the Squash Australia State and Territory Member Sport Development Grant. The grant helps deliver initiatives that strengthen participation, visibility, and community connection, directly supporting the Play Well strategic priority areas of Driving lifelong involvement, Building connections and Equitable access.

The initiative aligns with the national participation program, Squash Stars, a national participation program introducing children and families to the sport through fun and inclusive experiences. Supported by local councils and community volunteers, the Tasmanian activations follow Squash Australia’s national guidelines for safe, welcoming, and sustainable community events.
