Squash Australia proudly supports IDAHOBIT 2025

Published Sat 17 May 2025

Squash Australia stands proudly in support of IDAHOBIT - the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia - which is being recognised today.

This important day is a global call to action, recognising the need to challenge discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression and to promote a world where everyone feels safe, valued and included.

“Squash Australia stands proudly in support of IDAHOBIT,” Robert Donaghue, Squash Australia CEO. “We are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of our community, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.

“Discrimination of any kind has no place in our sport. Through our LGBTQ+ Inclusion Policy, the growth of the Rainbow Racquets Squash Network, and the development of practical resources, we continue working to ensure squash is a sport where everyone feels respected, supported, and free to be themselves.”

Squash Australia’s support of IDAHOBIT is one of many actions that reflect its broader mission to ensure equity and access across the sport.

Last month, the organisation proudly retained its Silver Tier status in the Pride in Sport Index (PSI), a nationally recognised benchmarking tool that measures LGBTQIA+ inclusion across Australian sporting organisations.

Retaining Silver status is a testament to Squash Australia's consistent efforts and leadership in promoting an inclusive culture. From national policies to on-the-ground engagement, the organisation continues to embed inclusion in every part of the game.

One of the most significant recent developments is the continued growth of Rainbow Racquets, a national squash network that connects LGBTQIA+ players and allies across the country. With events, meet-ups, and a strong community spirit, Rainbow Racquets plays a vital role in building visibility and connection, ensuring squash courts are spaces of fun, fairness, and belonging.

As IDAHOBIT 2025 brings global attention to the ongoing challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ communities, Squash Australia joins with sporting and community organisations nationwide in saying no to discrimination and yes to inclusion, visibility, and equality.
