South Bank to host Squash Australian Open in 2027

The Squash Australian Open is partnering with South Bank Corporation for the third year in a row from 23-28 February 2027, following record crowds in 2026.

South Bank Piazza will again be the host venue for the 2027 Squash Australian Open where the world’s best squash players compete on the purpose-built glass court in front of thousands of Australian sporting fans. 

As one of seven gold status events on the PSA Squash Tour, the Squash Australian Open has become an important event for the world’s top squash players, giving spectators the chance to witness elite squash on home soil.

With squash set to make its debut in the LA 2028 Olympic Games and hopes of a Brisbane 2032 Olympic appearance, Squash Australia CEO Robert Donaghue said the event’s continual record crowds prove that Brisbane and the South Bank Piazza is a prime location for promoting the sport.

“The Squash Australian Open is a landmark event for not only our athletes and community, but the international superstars of our game,” he said.

“South Bank Piazza has showcased our sport like never before, it has become an iconic venue on the PSA Squash Tour, and we’re thrilled to be back at this venue in 2027.

“This Squash Australian Open dates back almost 100 years and to see its re-emergence over the last three years on the global squash stage has been exciting for the sport as we prepare for our Olympic debut.”

For world-class player Greg Lobban, it will be his first chance to represent Australia, marking a significant boost for the nation's elite squash program ahead of the sport's debut at the 2028 Olympic Games.

A winner of 16 PSA Tour titles throughout his career, Lobban has been a mainstay of the international game for more than a decade. His career highlights include a bronze medal in the men's doubles at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and consistent top-25 world rankings.

“I last played the Australian Open in 2025, so it will be really exciting to come here and play on the glass court," Lobban said. 

“Being able to represent Australia on home soil will be a privilege, and I’m really looking forward to it. I’m hoping all the fans come and support us, it is an incredible atmosphere here. 

"It's really cool, we have some iconic venues around the world in Squash and South Bank Piazza is up there and making a mark. The best players in the world will play and compete on the glass court, it's really special. 

“It's a really exciting opportunity to come to Australia and represent Australia, especially with my family having ties here. I'm going to do my best to be able to get to the Olympics, and this is the start of that journey.”

The Squash Australian Open returns to South Bank in Brisbane from 23-28 February 2027. Tickets and corporate hospitality packages will go on sale early August.
