The 2026 Squash Australian Open in Brisbane delivered record crowds and world-class action, attracting more than 4,000 fans across the six-day event. A landmark moment came on Saturday night, when over 1,100 spectators packed the South Bank Piazza for the semi-finals — the largest crowd in the tournament’s history.
The event showcased elite international competition, featuring stars of the PSA Tour alongside Australia’s top wildcards, all competing on the iconic glass court at South Bank Piazza.
Top seeds Paul Coll (NZL) and Sivasangari Subramaniam (MAS) were crowned champions on Sunday, 15 March. Coll ended an 11-year title drought to claim his second Australian Open crown, while Subramaniam secured her second title at the event, having previously won in 2019.
The tournament also achieved its largest broadcast reach to date. Finals matches were broadcast in Australia on Fox Sports and Kayo Sports, as well as SBS On Demand, with full match replays available to fans. Internationally, SquashTV streamed the entire event, bringing the action in Brisbane to a global audience.
Beyond the main draw, the Squash Australian Open delivered a strong community and participation program. A Graded Event featuring 150 players was held at Sandgate Squash Centre alongside the professional competition. Squash Australia also hosted a Referee Tutor Workshop, a Coaching Course, and a Squash Stars activation, encouraging families and newcomers to experience the sport.
A highlight of the week was the 2026 Squash Australian Open Gala Luncheon and the annual Squash Australia Awards. Australian legend Heather McKay was inducted into the PSA Hall of Fame, while clubs, volunteers and players were recognised for their contributions to the sport. The luncheon was attended by 120 guests on Saturday, 14 March.
Squash Australia CEO Robert Donaghue said the event’s success reflects the growing strength of the sport.
“To see record crowds in Brisbane and the largest audience in Australian Open history is fantastic for squash. The tournament continues to grow each year, and it’s exciting to see so many new and returning fans, players and members of the community come together to celebrate world-class competition.
“With comprehensive live and on-demand coverage, fans across Australia and around the globe have been able to experience the intensity and excitement of this event.
“The success of this year’s Squash Australian Open reflects the strength and passion of our community and sets a strong platform for the continued growth of the sport in Australia.”
The 2026 Squash Australian Open has set a new benchmark for attendance, broadcast reach and community engagement, reinforcing its status as one of the premier events on both the PSA Squash Tour and the Australian sporting calendar.
