Maitra and Joseph through to Round of 32 at World Juniors

For the first time in over decade two Australian women have progressed to the Round of 32 at the World Squash Junior Championships.

Seeded Aussies [25/32] Sarbani Maitra and [25/32] Joanne Joseph secured first round wins overnight in Canada in the women’s main draw.

Maitra was dominant in her performance agaisnt Starla Phillips (RSA), winning 3-0 in the head-to-head battle.

Joseph also secured a 3-0 victory against Gabriela Valentina Buenrostro Orozco (MEX) to find a spot in the next round.

Lilly Wilson competed in the women’s qualifying draw where she won her first round 3-0 against Vivienne Van Der Schyff (RSA). She fought bravely in the second round of the women’s draw, losing to the top seed 0-3.

Tina Ma came up against seeded Diya Yadav (USA) in her first match of the event where she lost 3-0.

In the men’s draw, Ethan Middleton (3-0) and Stanley Chung (3-1) claimed first round victories before being knocked out in the 2nd Round.

Depsite a loss in the opening round, Kasper Cheung fought strongly in a tough match against Morris Frey (SWI) to win 3-1.

Henry Kross also started strong winning the opening set of his first round match against Levi Visser (GER). He eventually went on to lose the match 3-1.
