Kooyong to Host World Championships Qualifiers in 2027

Squash Australia has confirmed Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club will host the Oceania World Championships Qualification event in 2027, with the prestigious Melbourne venue set to welcome the region’s leading players for a third consecutive year.

The Qualification event, March 4-7, will provide Oceania’s athletes with a direct pathway to the 2027 PSA World Championships, with players from across Australia, New Zealand and the wider region expected to contest the men’s and women’s draws.

Kooyong has become an established part of the Oceania pathway to the sport’s biggest stage, having hosted the qualification event in 2025 and 2026.

The 2026 edition saw Australian Joseph White and New Zealand’s Kaitlyn Watts emerge victorious, with both earning their place in the PSA World Championships in Giza, Egypt. White went on to represent Australia at his second World Championships after securing the men’s qualification spot on home soil.

The return to Kooyong in 2027 will again give Australian players the opportunity to compete for a World Championships place in familiar surroundings, against some of the leading players from across Oceania.

Squash Australia CEO Rob Donaghue said the continued partnership with Kooyong was an important part of providing a high-quality pathway for athletes chasing international opportunities.

“The World Championships is one of the biggest opportunities available to our athletes, and having the Oceania qualification event here in Australia is incredibly important,” Donaghue said.

“Kooyong has proven to be a fantastic host over the past two years, providing the players with a world-class venue and an environment that reflects the importance of what is at stake.

“We saw in 2026 what this event can mean for athletes, with Joseph White earning his place at the World Championships after winning here at Kooyong.

“To be bringing the event back for a third year gives more athletes from across Oceania the opportunity to compete for that same opportunity and take another step towards the world stage.”

Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club Interim CEO, Steve Wood said the club was delighted to continue its relationship with Squash Australia and welcome the region’s best players back to the venue.

“Kooyong is proud to once again host the Oceania World Championships Qualification event and continue our strong association with Squash Australia,” Wood said.

“We have seen some outstanding squash played at Kooyong over the past two years and it is exciting to know the world championship pathway will return to the club in 2027.”

“Hosting athletes from across Oceania is a great opportunity for our Members and the wider squash community, and we look forward to another highly competitive event.”

Further details, including entries and the field of athletes, will be confirmed closer to the event.
