Jessica van der Walt announces retirement from professional squash

Squash Australia congratulates Jessica van der Walt on an outstanding career, as the Australian representative and three-time National Champion announces her retirement from professional squash.

One of Australia’s most accomplished players of the modern era, van der Walt leaves the sport after more than a decade of competing at the highest levels internationally and representing Australia with distinction on some of the world’s biggest stages.

A mainstay of the Australian women’s team, van der Walt proudly represented the green and gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, a career highlight that reflected years of dedication and excellence on the PSA Tour and in international competition.

Throughout her career, van der Walt wore the Australia colours at multiple major events, including the Women’s World Team Championships in 2022 and 2024, the World Doubles Championships in 2019 and 2022, and the World Games in 2017 and 2022.

Her success extended across both individual and team competitions, van der Walt claimed eight PSA Tour titles during her professional career and reached a career-high world ranking of No. 54.

On home soil, she enjoyed a dominant period at the Australia National Championships, winning three consecutive women’s singles titles from 2022 to 2024 and cementing her place among the country’s most successful players.

Squash Australia CEO Robert Donaghue said van der Walt’s impact on the sport extended far beyond her results on the court.

“Jessica has been a fantastic representative of Australian squash for many years and someone who has earned enormous respect from teammates, opponents and the wider squash community,” he said.

“She approached every opportunity to represent Australia with pride and professionalism, and her commitment to the sport has set a great example for those coming through the pathway.

“While we’ll miss seeing her compete, we’re incredibly grateful for everything she has contributed to Australian squash and look forward to seeing what comes next for her.”

As she steps away from professional competition, van der Walt leaves behind a legacy defined by consistent excellence and a lasting contribution to Australian squash.
