Indigo-Rose looking to make the most of AJC

Indigo-Rose Lawson is preparing for her final Australian Junior Championships. 

She first picked up a racquet at 10-years-old after being encouraged to give squash a try by her mum, who also played the sport.

“I enjoyed it and have played it ever since,” Indigo-Rose said.

“I love how competitive the sport is and how challenging it is physically and mentally.”

The Australian Junior Championships provide another opportunity to test herself against some of the country’s best young players.

“My main goal is to play my best squash, stay focused and enjoy the experience,” she said.

“I want to compete hard and hopefully achieve some good results.”

The AJC is the latest chapter in a squash journey, travelling to tournaments and competing against new players has been among her favourite experiences, while team events have provided some of her most memorable moments.

“I love competing alongside my friends and winning together,” she said.

Those experiences have also helped shape what she wants from the sport beyond her own playing career.

Indigo-Rose hopes to continue improving as a player, but also wants to eventually give back by helping and teaching younger players.

“I’d love to share what I’ve learnt through my own experiences and encourage younger players to enjoy squash and keep improving,” she said.

“I look forward to experiencing a new place, competing against different players and enjoying the whole experience.

“I’m especially excited to get on court and compete.”

Indigo-Rose has been offered a scholarship in Scotland.
