Finals Picture Takes Shape on Day 2 of Oceania Junior Championships

With only one day to go, Oceania’s champions are one step closer to being crowned as top players from the U11 to U19 division secure their spots in 2026 Oceania Junior Championships finals.
With some semi final matches set to be played in the morning of the final day, the grand finals will take place from 12pm AEST at Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre, starting with the U11 Girls and finishing with the U19 Boys final.
Among those making their mark is Bryce Correa (SA), who is relishing the challenge of competing up an age group in the U19 Boys. In his third Oceania Junior Championships appearance, Correa claimed a first-round win before falling to [3/4] seed Stanley Chung.
“OJC has been very good. I won my first round and then lost my second round to the [3/4] seed Stanley Chung this morning. But overall, I’ve been playing very well. I’m very excited to be playing up a division,” Correa said.
Beyond the court, Correa highlighted the unique atmosphere of the event. “I like how it brings us all together. I like how I get to see my New Zealand friends, my New South Wales friends, Queensland friends. It’s a very social event for me personally.”
Fresh off being named in the National Junior Talent Squad, Correa has his sights set on even bigger stages. “I hope to someday represent Australia at the World Junior Championships,” he said.
In the U11 Girls, Capri Coleman (QLD) has been embracing every moment of the 2026 Oceania Junior Championships. Representing Cairns Squash, Coleman said the opportunity to play multiple matches and experience the glass court has been a standout.
“It’s been really fun. I really like that I get to play two games on most of the days. It’s been a great experience,” she said.
“I really enjoyed playing on the glass court. That was a highlight for me.”
For Coleman, the social side of the sport is just as important as the competition. “I like playing with all of my friends and playing lots of games. I like the tournaments because you get to play kids from all other places and you can win trophies and medals.”
Leonie Cox (PNG) is also building valuable experience in her second Oceania Junior Championships campaign, competing in the U17 Girls division.
“It’s been pretty good actually. It’s very exciting and fun to meet other players from all over Australia and the region. I’m enjoying new experiences,” Cox said.
With a focus on growth, Cox is taking lessons from each match. “I think squash is very enjoyable. I hope to go far in this tournament and learn from my losses. Hopefully next year I can secure quarterfinals.”
“I’d like to continue working on my skills so I can come back stronger next year.”
Action will kick off on the third and final day of the 2026 Oceania Junior Championships from 8am AEST with a livestream showcasing the Glass Court (Court 1) and Court 9. All finals matches will be played on the Glass Court.
