The nation's best young squash players will descend on Devonport, Tasmania for the Australian Junior Squash Championships to take place from 27 September to 3 October 2026.
The Championships, supported by the Tasmanian Government through Events Tasmania, will begin with individual events, before the states and territories go head-to-head in the teams competition, culminating in a thrilling showcase of Australia's top emerging talent.
With the event being staged in Devonport it marks a significant milestone for Tasmanian squash and reinforces the state's growing reputation as a destination for major sporting events.
Squash Australia CEO Rob Donaghue, said the organisation was excited to bring the Championships to Tasmania.
"We're thrilled to be partnering with the Tasmanian Government via Events Tasmania to bring the Australian Junior Squash Championships to Devonport this year and to have such fantastic support from the State Government for our premier national junior event," Donaghue said.
"The Championships are a vital part of our junior pathway, giving young athletes the chance to test themselves against their competitors from across the country in individual competition before representing their state or territory in the teams event.
"Hosting the event in Devonport not only provides a fantastic experience for players and their families, with numerous tourism activities on offer pre and post event, but also supports the growth of squash in Tasmania and highlights the strength of regional centres in delivering national events."
The Australian Junior Squash Championships has long been a breeding ground for Australia's most successful players, with past champions including Michelle Martin, David Palmer, Sarah Fitz-Gerald, Rachael Grinham, Natalie Grinham, Cameron Pilley, Ryan Cuskelly, Zac Alexander, Chris Dittmar and many more who have gone on to excel on the world stage.
Minister for Sport, Nick Duigan, said the Tasmanian Government is backing junior sport, regional events and community participation.
"The Australian Junior Squash Championships will attract hundreds of players, officials and families from across the country to Devonport," Minister Duigan said. "Importantly, young athletes will have the chance to compete in the pinnacle of their sport.
"This event will strengthen Tasmania's sporting reputation, help keep our economy strong and highlight the important role regional centres play in hosting national championships.
"I look forward to welcoming juniors from across the country to Tassie in September."
With a full week of high-quality competition, the 2026 Australian Junior Squash Championships promises to be a celebration of junior sport, talent and community, as Devonport welcomes the next generation of Australian squash stars.
