AUSTRALIAN JUNIORS END TRANS TASMAN TEST DROUGHT WITH STRONG WIN IN SYDNEY

Published Tue 20 Dec 2022

Australia’s juniors have ended a eight year drought, claiming the 2022 Trans Tasman Test Series title in Sydney.

After two days of intense competition, the Aussie young guns produced a strong 18-10 win over their New Zealand counterparts, taking the title for the first time since 2014.

It comes after a strong performance from the young Australians who also dominated through the recent Oceania Junior Championships that was held as the lead in the tournament to the Trans Tasman Test Series.

Squash Australia’s High Performance Manager, Lachlan Johnston, said the future looks to be in strong hands with such depth coming into the pathways.

“Really exciting to take the Trans Tasman Series for the first time since 2014 in such convincing fashion.

“This group has shown that they're taking the right steps to lead the next generation of Australian squash,” he said.

Sophie Fadaely, captained the side and was thrilled with how her team were able to deliver on the home stage.

“I'm super proud of our team and the efforts they've put in this week. It was a great team effort from everyone,” she said.
