Aussies Set to Contest for City of Devonport Tasmanian Open

Published Tue 14 Jul 2026

From 15-19 July, the City of Devonport Tasmanian Open will be the next event on the 2026 PSA Squash Tour calendar, and the fourth stop in the Australian Squash Tour.

The City of Devonport Tasmanian Open Champion title will be contested by international and Australian athletes across two comprehensive 24-player draws for both men and women.

Returning to the City of Devonport Tasmanian Open, last year's finalists Dylan Molinaro and Ella Jane Lash are determined to go one step further and improve upon their previous results.

Australia’s Dylan Molinaro occupies the top line of the men’s draw. Current ranked #92 in the world, Molinaro is eager to earn his maiden tour title this year, after narrowly missing the final in last year's edition of the tournament.

The women's competition promises high-quality squash, featuring a field where every one of the top seven seeds holds a spot in the world's top 100 players.

Top-seeded in the women's field is world #65 Hayley Ward from South Africa. Following her victory at the 2025 Gibraltar Open, Ward arrives in Tasmania aiming to secure another tour title.

Australian and the second-highest seed in the field is world #77 Madison Lyon. She reached the quarter-finals in last year's edition and is determined to advance further in this year's tournament.

Should the tournament bracket progress in her favor, Lyon is anticipated to face New Zealand's Ella Jane Lash in a high-stakes semi-final. Lash, currently ranked world #85, was the runner-up in last year's event.

Alongside Molinaro, the men's competition will feature a field of 13 Australian athletes.

Brendan MacDonald, Thomas Scott, sit within the top five seeds. Nicholas Calvert, Connor Hayes, Tate Norris, Benjamin Ratcliffe and Bradley Fullick round out the Australians in the top ten.

The lineup of Australian women participating in the Open also features Sarah Cardwell (11th seed), Erin Classen (12th seed), Hannah Slyth (16th seed), Shona Coxsedge (19th seed), and Gracie Pattison (24th seed).

Gracie Pattison a former Australian Junior representative enters the tournament as the #1 Tasmanian, and will be hoping to create a few upsets and improve on her result from last year.

All Australian players competing in the tournament will be accumulating points towards the Australian Squash Tour standings.

Alongside the City of Devonport Tasmanian Open, over 60 athletes will participate in the graded event.

Squash Tasmania President David Mulcahy said it’s an honor to continue the nearly 80-year legacy of the City of Devonport Tasmanian Open and to welcome eight top-100 ranked players to the event.

“The Tasmanian Open stands as the pinnacle of squash in Tasmania and one of the longest-running tournaments in Australian squash history.”

“None of this would be possible without the outstanding local support behind this tournament, particularly from the Devonport City Council, which has helped make the Tasmanian Open the second-richest tournament in Australia,” he said.
