Australians impress as Devonport Tasmanian Open delivers thrilling finals

The 2026 City of Devonport Tasmanian Open concluded in spectacular fashion on Sunday, with three finals going the full distance to cap off an exciting week of PSA Squash Tour action in Tasmania.

As the fourth stop on the Australian Squash Tour, the tournament attracted a strong international field, with Hong Kong's Nga Ching Cheng claiming the women's title and Wales' Owain Taylor taking out the men's championship after a series of high-quality matches.

Australia's Sarah Cardwell and Thomas Scott led the local charge, both advancing to the semi-finals against tough international opposition.

Cardwell enjoyed an impressive run through the women's draw before falling to eventual champion Nga Ching Cheng, while Scott also reached the final four, where he was defeated by Canadian Karim Aguib Michael, who finished runner-up in the men's event.

Madison Lyon backed up her strong seeding with a quarter-final appearance, narrowly missing a place in the semi-finals after going down to eventual runner-up Po Yui Kirstie Wong of Hong Kong.

On the men's side, Dylan Molinaro continued his consistent form on the Australian Squash Tour by reaching the quarter-finals, alongside fellow Australians Connor Hayes and Oscar Curtis.

Erin Classen progressed to the second round in the women's draw, while Shona Coxsedge, Hannah Slyth, Grace Pattison, Luka Cock and Caitlin Purvis all gained valuable Australian Squash Tour experience against a quality international field.

In the men's competition, Jack Hudson, Brendan MacDonald, Tate Norris, Benjamin Ratcliffe and Benjamin Hudson all recorded competitive performances, while Darcy Hayes, Jarrod Atkins and Javed Ali also represented Australia throughout the week.

The City of Devonport Tasmanian Open once again showcased the depth of international squash while providing Australian players with another valuable opportunity to earn Australian Squash Tour points against world-class opposition.

Attention now turns to the 2026 Victorian Open PSA, with the fifth stop on the Australian Squash Tour set to take place from 29 July to 2 August at Mulgrave Country Club in Melbourne. As a PSA Challenger M6/W6 event, players will continue their pursuit of valuable Australian Squash Tour ranking points and PSA success throughout the 2026 season.
