Squash Australia is excited to announce that next year's Australian Junior Open (AJO) will for the first time, be included in the Asian Squash Federation’s (ASF) 2026 Asian Junior Super Series as a Silver status event.

The Asian Junior Super Series features events hosted across Asia in squash dominant countries such as Malaysia, Hong Kong and India. This prestigious series provides a crucial competitive platform for the region's top junior players, allowing them to earn ranking points and gain valuable international experience as they develop into the next generation of professional squash champions.

The AJO will again return to Melbourne and to the Melbourne Sports Centers (MSAC) from 12-16 April 2026. The tournament will be contested across five days of competition in line with other major international junior squash tournaments.

“We’re pleased to see Australia and the AJO become a destination for some of the best junior squash players from around the world,” said Tamika Hunt, Squash Australia General Manager, Partnerships & Major Events.

“The inclusion in next year’s Asian Junior Super Series is a huge step forward for the tournament and enhances the collaboration and promotion of the sport in the Asia-Pacific. It will also provide our Aussie junior athletes with the opportunity to experience the different playing styles and approaches to the game that players from across the Asian Federation will bring to the five days of competition.

"The success of the last two Australian Junior Opens, combined with world-class facilities on offer at MSAC and support of the Victorian government and other key stakeholders, allows us to deliver an event that is fast rivalling the most prestigious junior tournaments around the world.”

Honorable Duncan Chiu, President of Asian Squash Federation is excited with the organisations involvement in next year’s showpiece junior event.

“The Asian Squash Federation is proud to support the Australian Junior Open 2026 as a one-off trial event that showcases the vibrancy and global reach of squash.”

“Initiatives like this play a vital role in highlighting the broader development of our beloved sport in Australia and demonstrating squash’s readiness for inclusion in the Olympic Games,”  said Chiu.

“We commend Squash Australia’s commitment to elevating the sport on the road to Brisbane 2032, and we strongly encourage all junior players across Asia and beyond to take part in this exciting event and be part of Squash’s Olympic journey.”

Since its inception in 2012, the AJO has been a Platinum event on the Australian Junior Squash Tour. It has served as a launchpad for the next generation of Australian talent, with 2025 U19s Finalists Emmy Lamb and Joanne Joseph going on to represent Australia at the recent World Junior Squash Championships held in Cairo, Egypt in July.

The Oceania Junior Open will also return to Australia and take place post-AJO from 17-19 April, 2026 at the Melbourne Sports Centres (MSAC).
