The Squash Australia Level 3 Referee Course develops advanced officiating skills to a national and international standard, enabling referees to officiate at major events such as the Australian Open, Oceania competitions, PSA Challenger Tour, and WSF Championships. It focuses on match management, communication, and composure under pressure. Certification is valid for two years and recognised only once Squash Australia domestic requirements are completed.

What is the Level 3 Referee Course

The Level 3 course is designed to prepare referees for national and international officiating roles, requiring strong presentation skills, advanced understanding of elite play, and the ability to manage high-pressure matches. Candidates develop advanced communication and decision-making skills to ensure fair and professional match control. This level represents a significant step in the referee pathway towards officiating elite competitions.

How is the Course Applied

The course combines Squash Australia requirements with World Squash Officiating (WSO) online training. Candidates must complete WSO Levels 0, 1, and 2, as well as Sport Integrity Australia modules on harassment, discrimination, and decision-making in sport. Certification allows referees to officiate national championships, international events, and selected PSA tournaments. Recertification every two years requires a vision-hearing declaration, WSO Level 0 Rules of Squash, and annual Sport Integrity Australia anti-doping updates.

Who is Eligible

Applicants must hold a current Squash Australia membership with a valid Working with Children Check and have at least 12 months of experience as a Level 3 referee. Pre-requisites include completion of WSO Level 0, 1, and 2 courses, a physician-signed vision-hearing declaration, and Sport Integrity Australia modules. Candidates must also acknowledge and comply with Squash Australia’s Referee Code of Behaviour.
