The Squash Australia Level 2 Referee Course develops advanced officiating skills, enabling referees to manage high-level domestic and international events such as state opens, Australian championships, and PSA satellites. It builds on Level 1 with a focus on communication, control of matches, and application of rules. Certification is valid for two years and recognised once Squash Australia domestic requirements are completed.
What is the Level 2 Referee Course
The Level 2 course equips referees to apply rules with confidence, control matches effectively, and develop strong communication skills. Candidates gain an understanding of the roles of referee and marker while learning to officiate at major competitions, including state, national, and selected international tournaments. Certified referees also receive an official Squash Australia referee polo shirt as part of their recognition.
How is the Course Applied
The course combines World Squash Officiating (WSO) online modules with Squash Australia requirements. Candidates complete WSO Levels 0 and 1 alongside domestic modules such as Anti-Doping Fundamentals and Introduction to Illicit Drugs in Sport. Certification allows referees to officiate at state masters, national juniors, Australian club championships, and PSA satellite events. Recertification every two years requires WSO Level 0 Rules, annual Anti-Doping updates, and compliance with Squash Australia requirements.
Who is Eligible
Applicants must be at least 16 years old and hold a current Squash Australia membership with a valid Working with Children Check. A minimum of 12 months of experience as a Level 2 referee is required before progressing further. Pre-requisites include WSO Level 0 and 1 completion, Sport Integrity Australia anti-doping and illicit drugs courses, and agreement with the Referee Code of Behaviour.
