GENERAL MEMBERS


 

This Award is to recognise those who have represented Squash in a positive manner displaying objectivity and integrity over a significant period. The Award recognises those who have shown excellence and outstanding achievement from personal effort or initiative in roles that contribute to the reputation of Australian Squash. Those supportive roles may include administration, sports, science, history, technology, innovation, coaching or refereeing.

 

 

Albert Armstrong

  • Inducted as a General Member: 2022

Bert Armstrong has dedicated his time since the mid 80’s preserving the history of squash housing the largest collection of squash racquets in Australia. In the past 25 years, the collection has grown to about 950 squash racquets in 200 brand names from 24 countries, the earliest racquet being from 1890. Bert Armstrong has a squash court in his home and has played host to many big names, such as David Palmer and Sarah Fitzgerald. He loves to host his squash team on home nights out of his court from home.  


 

Colin Clapper

  • Inducted as a General Member: 2022

Colin has been involved in the development and guidance of squash from grassroots through to State, National and International levels for over 50 years. Having represented Squash in various roles from Brisbane Districts Squash, Squash Queensland, Squash Australia and Oceania Squash Federation, Colin has certainly left his mark. Colin has been a great servant of Squash in Australia and representing Squash Australia in the Pacific Region, being awarded Life Membership of Squash Australia in 1990. 

 

Dean Williams 

  • Inducted as a General Member: 2022

Dean stepped into the position of General Manager of Squash Western Australia from January 2019 to March 2022. During this time, he managed to restore the finances, increase player membership, sell the existing Association’s asset, procure a new Headquarters location in Belmont and raise the profile of Squash at WA Government level and in the wider community. In his younger days Dean played on the professional world circuit from 1977 to 1992 with great success including World Number 2 Ranking. In 2003 Dean inducted into the Western Australia Hall of Champions before being inducted into the Squash WA Hall of Fame in 2005. Dean’s overall commitment to the sport makes him a worthy recipient of the award.
