WSC Bridging Course Opens Pathway for Experienced Coaches

Squash Australia is counting down to the launch of the World Squash Coaching (WSC) Bridging Course, a process that provides experienced Australian coaches with the opportunity to gain WSC certification by demonstrating their experience, knowledge, and application of modern coaching principles.

The World Squash Coaching (WSC) Bridging Course is designed for experienced Australian coaches who previously held a Squash Coaching Certification issued before 2021 and whose accreditation has since lapsed. It provides a streamlined pathway for coaches with a minimum of four, six, or ten years of active coaching experience (for Levels 1, 2 and 3 respectively) to regain certification by demonstrating their knowledge, practical expertise, and ability to apply the WSC Guiding Principles and Coaching Tools in everyday coaching, without the need to complete a full coaching course.

This approach recognises the valuable contributions of coaches who have been developing players for many years, while ensuring their knowledge and practice remain aligned with global best standards. Coaches will showcase their understanding of the WSC Guiding Principles and Coaching Tools, applying them directly to their everyday coaching.

National Lead – Sport Development, Shaun McEachin, said the launch highlights the important work Squash Australia has undertaken by adopting the WSC framework. “Australia has been proactive in the adoption of the WSC framework and we are now recognised as one of the WSC Member Federations with the highest number of certified coaches."

"The WSC Bridging Course builds on this by ensuring experienced coaches can continue their journey under a globally recognised system, while contributing directly to the growth of our sport.”

The course integrates resources from the Australian Sports Commission, Sport Integrity Australia, and World Squash Officiating, providing coaches with tools and education that support development at every level. As part of the program, participants will complete both online learning and practical appraisals, such as detailed lesson plans and annual player development plans, demonstrating their ability to deliver world-class coaching.

McEachin added that the new pathway is a key step in strengthening the national coaching community.

“By integrating national and international resources, we are ensuring our coaches are supported, empowered, and equipped to inspire players across the country."

"The Bridging Course creates a clear pathway for experienced coaches to gain WSC certification, recognising their knowledge while aligning them with contemporary practice.”

Coaches who complete the Bridging Course will be formally recognised on both the Squash Australia and World Squash Coaching directories, joining one of the largest accredited coaching networks in the world.

By opening applications in September, Squash Australia is ensuring that more coaches can take advantage of this opportunity to grow, develop, and contribute to a sustainable future for the sport.
